ADVANTAGES

  • Improves the acquisition of grammar, increases interaction and enhances positive perceptions by students towards grammar.
  • The student chooses from a menu among various options related to the topic, the level of linguistic difficulty, etc.

  • Each student decides his own study schedule, works at his own pace, repeating a difficult activity, skipping another one that does not interest him or that he has already mastered, etc.
  • The student is usually the center of the learning process; This helps him to take responsibility for his own learning, at the same time that it contributes to his formation as an autonomous learner.
  • The student gets help and correction. The fact that it is a machine that corrects him usually afflicts him less than when he is corrected by someone else. The computer promotes self-evaluation.
CALL fits perfectly both in the so-called knowledge society and in lifelong learning. The introduction of the computer in the instructional process makes it necessary to redefine the roles of the participants in said process. The teacher is no longer the person who supplies all the information. The computer, for its part, assumes multiple roles: tutor or training tool, source of information, interlocutor, interactive whiteboard, etc. In short, information technology and telematics facilitate the creation of a new learning context in which the student has a wide margin of decision regarding the contents, the place and the moment of learning.

DISADVANTAGES

  • There is no oral communication to know the correct pronunciation of the new language.
  • There are students who do not have adequate knowledge and others do not have a computer either at home or in schools, not all schools are equipped properly.
  • The student's doubts cannot be resolved immediately.
  • There are usually distractions when carrying out learning activities.
The other side of the coin, the disadvantages of innovation, some students who are already extroverts take advantage of the "shield" provided by the computer, express themselves inappropriately or make requests that would never occur to students of the face-to-face methodology.
